Ingredients: Alcohol Denat., Fragrance/Parfum, Water/Aqua/Eau, Coumarin, Linalool, Benzaldehyde, Eugenol, Benzyl Salicylate.
First spray is cold lavender and clary sage — refined, almost barbershop-clean, but with a slightly resinous edge that signals this isn't a polite fragrance. Within 90 seconds the bitter almond enters and changes the whole conversation. Suddenly it's not aromatic anymore — it's gourmand-leaning, slightly dark, intriguing in a way that makes people ask before you even sit down.
By the five-minute mark the heart is open: bitter almond + creamy vanilla + sleek leather, weaving together in that distinctive Tom Ford-style architecture. The leather isn't smoky, isn't cowhide, isn't motorcycle. It's the leather of an unworn dress shoe. By hour two the dry-down emerges: tonka bean, soft amber, cashmere wood. Eight to nine hours on skin. This fragrance is the olfactive equivalent of a sharp suit.
When to wear it
- Autumn & winter evenings
- Cocktail bars, restaurants, theater dates
- When you want to feel iconic, not loud
- Hot summer humidity (gets heavy)
- Conservative offices (the leather projects too much)
- If you've never worn anything with a leather note
Two sprays only — chest and one wrist. Brutal Story is dense by design; over-spraying turns the bitter almond from "sophisticated" into "medicinal." If you want longer trail, layer over an unscented body lotion rather than adding more sprays. The dry-down clings to wool and silk for 24+ hours.
Honest comparison: Brutal Story vs Tom Ford Fucking Fabulous
The lavender + bitter almond + leather + vanilla DNA. Same dark-glamour personality. Same instantly-recognizable Tom Ford architecture in the heart-to-base transition.
The original is darker and slightly more aggressive on the open — Tom Ford uses heavier leather absolutes. Brutal Story is a touch more transparent in the first hour. By the dry-down they're indistinguishable.
Built our own bitter almond accord using benzaldehyde + heliotrope, which is what gives Brutal Story its slightly more vanilla-leaning almond compared to the original's harsher cherry-pit interpretation. Reduced the leather absolute by ~15% to keep it wearable in more environments.
If you've worn Fucking Fabulous and consider it your evening signature — keep it. If you want the same dressed-up dark-leather feeling without the $405 commitment, or if the original ever felt slightly too aggressive for daytime — Brutal Story is the version designed for actual wear.
From the lab
“ Bitter almond is the most dangerous note in modern perfumery. Get it wrong and you smell like cyanide-warning-label cherry pit. The trick is that bitter almond needs vanilla and leather wrapped around it — that's what turns it from chemical-warning into seduction. We got there in version four; the first three smelled like a poisoning. — Founder’s Note
Frequently asked
QWill it smell exactly like Fucking Fabulous?
About 90% match. The almond-leather-vanilla heart is very close. The dry-down is essentially identical. The main difference is opening intensity — Brutal Story is slightly less aggressive on the first hour, which most of our customers consider an improvement.
QHow long does it last?
8–9 hours on skin, easily 24+ hours on wool or leather jackets. This is one of the longest-lasting fragrances we make — the leather + tonka bean base is extremely persistent.
QIs the leather note authentic?
Yes. We use a real leather accord built from suederal, isobutyl quinoline, and birch tar at low concentration. It reads as fine leather (think dress shoe, glove, leather jacket lining), not as smoke or cowhide. If you've enjoyed Tom Ford Tuscan Leather, Mancera Red Tobacco, or Memo Italian Leather — Brutal Story is in that same family.
QCan women wear this?
Absolutely — and many do. Brutal Story is genuinely unisex. The bitter almond reads slightly feminine, the leather reads slightly masculine, and the combination ends up perfectly androgynous. Women who like Tom Ford Lost Cherry or Black Orchid often gravitate to this.
